Mckenzie River

Mckenzie River

Clear, cold, and fast, the McKenzie River flows from the Willamette National Forest, and feeds into the Willamette River just north of Eugene. The river provides habitat for freshwater fish and clean drinking water. Recreational activities are enjoyed along the McKenzie, including hiking, rafting, fishing, and swimming.

One of the primary exports of Oregon is timber. Clear-cut logging is the most common way to harvest Douglas-fir trees and the practice can be devastating to ecosystems. Clear-cuts destroy old-growth forests, home to many native animals, and increases hillside erosion, degrading soil and water quality in the surrounding watershed.
